The Secret To Keeping Mosquitoes Out Of Your Moline Yard

Mosquitoes are flying insects that start their lives out as aquatic larvae. Most of us know what they look like and how annoying they can be. We also know they can be quite dangerous as they spread unwanted diseases to humans and other animals.

We know how they feed, where they breed and even what time of the year they pose the greatest threat. Still, we're learning more about the mosquito every year. And what we're learning is scary.

What You Probably Already Know About Mosquitoes

We've known for some time, they can make their victims sick. In fact, according to the CDC "For most viruses spread by mosquitoes, no vaccines or medicines are available." And the list of diseases that mosquitoes carry keeps growing.

  • La Crosse encephalitis started being reported in 2004. LA Crosse encephalitis causes inflammation of the brain. Symptoms include headaches, seizures, even commas. The CDC estimates some cases go undiagnosed because it mimics other nervous-system diseases.

  • SLE or Saint Louis encephalitis has been attributed to mosquitoes for decades but in 2017 the CDC reported a recurrence of 17 SLE cases, to which no cures exist.

  • We all know about the recent Zika virus outbreaks between 2015 and 2017 and the West Nile virus outbreaks between 2013 and 2014, but what is less known are the 1200 cases of Dengue fever attributed to mosquitos.

We understand the danger associated with mosquitoes. We know about their life cycles, their habitat and what they need to flourish. Our experts can answer any other questions you may have about mosquitoes.

For all the things we know about mosquitoes, the real secret to keeping mosquitoes out of your yard is knowing where mosquitoes rest during the day. With this knowledge, we can kill them efficiently -- in numbers large enough to make a real difference.

Knowledge Is Action.

A lot of over the counter mosquito products work well enough -- as long as you know when, where, and how to use them. There's more to killing mosquitoes than simply reading instructions from a label. We have several decades of combined experience protecting our customers and their property from all kinds of pests. For those pests that can cause serious health risks, consulting an expert is doubly important. We know where mosquitoes hide during the day. We have been doing this for years and our experience is what makes the difference.

Approved Repellents

Because we're faced with real health threats from mosquitoes everywhere we go, almost everyone attempts to minimize their encounters with mosquitoes. Some of the methods people use are simply a placebo, but there are personal repellents recommended by the CDC. Particularly, look for repellents with one or more of the following active ingredients:

  • 2-undecanone

  • Deet

  • IR3535

  • Oil of lemon eucalyptus

  • PMD-Para-methane-dio

  • Picaridin.

Cover Up

The CDC also advises that we cover up exposed skin. By wearing long sleeve shirts and long pants, we can minimize the amount of skin we expose to mosquitoes. Covering up and using repellents helps keep the mosquitoes off of us, but these methods do nothing to protect our pets or kill off infestations hiding in the foliage around our yards.
